Birthdays

In the past 2 weeks I have baked 5 cakes. Well, 3 cakes and a whole slew of cup cakes. First there was D's birthday cake. A dark chocolate cake that had so much cocoa in the icing it was black. There was a lot of chocolate in that cake. Then the 15th was the Pickles first birthday. I couldn't let the day go by with out him having his first piece of cake. I didn't get a picture of the whole cake, I rushed the icing a bit and it wasn't all that pretty. The Pickle did not seem to mind.

Sunday we had his official first birthday party. We crammed about 35 people into our little house. I think that the kids had a lot of fun. Here is the tractor cake that I made for him. My dad decorated the cupcakes with little tractors to carry on the theme.

So I was having this dream...

I have this friend who I used to work with who loved to tell me about the dreams she had the night before. They were always very vivid and no matter how hard she tried to explain what happened it would always fall apart in the end. You just can't explain a dream to someone else because one moment you are talking to your mom and then the next moment it isn't your mom anymore, but your sister, but really still your mom and for some reason she is eating dish soap, but you're really not sure why... And on and on and on.

So, that being said; I had this dream last night that the pickle was in the bed with us and he had crawled to the edge. He was sort of tangled in the covers and I reached over and grabbed one of his feet. As I started to dig through the covers looking for the other foot I started to wake up. This was when I realized that I was draped across D digging through his covers. About this time he woke up and didn't really appreciate me being draped across him pulling at the covers. I decided to not even try and explain that I was trying to prevent the Pickle from crawling off the side of the bed instead I decided to just play dumb and said "Uh... never mind." as if I had a reason to be digging through the covers and was a little exasperated that he thought maybe I should leave him alone at 4 am.

I don't think that D remembers this event as he has yet to bring it up.

Happy Birthday

D turned 34 this weekend. Wow was it different than birthdays of the past. Last year we spent his birthday at the Japanese Steak house, me 1 day past my due date. Two years ago we spent the night at a favorite pub. This year.... At home and everyone who came to celebrate brought a baby with them. M and the pickle were peas in a pod. Everytime one cried the other cried in sympathy. The pickle was the big brute of a cousin knocking M down, banging him on the head, taking toys from him. Julie just laughed at it all.
unfortunately D's birthday gift did not arrive in time. He decided that he wanted an air horn for the CRV. I was like "What ever." That totally cemented the truth that while he says the CRV is my car, it totally isn't! He laughed and said that he will think it is pretty funny when in 2 years we buy another car for him and I'm driving a car with an air horn in it.
We are getting things ready for the pickles birthday party this Sunday. I did a quick guest list count and I am pretty shocked to realize that we have invited 50 people over for cake! I was thinking that most people that we invited wouldn't really be coming, but it turns out that most are. I need to get baking some cakes.
